Jesse McCartney proviene de una familia de artistas, sus padres Ginger y Scott McCartney, ensayaban cada otoño durante dos meses para unos grandes musicales que presentaban en noviembre. Tiene un hermano llamado Timmy y una hermana llamada Lea, ambos menores que él. A McCartney se le despertó el gusto por la música cuando trabajaba en el teatro de la comunidad y ése descubrimiento se extendió también a la interpretación, algo que requería una gran disciplina.
